Meritrust Credit Union announces it has completed the purchase for a new headquarters building located in downtown Wichita. The credit union purchased the building that currently serves as the headquarters for Cargill Protein, located at 151 N. Main.
“We’ve enjoyed the opportunity to partner with Cargill on the purchase of this building and are looking forward to making our move downtown,” says James Nastars, President/CEO of Meritrust. “This new headquarters will provide us ample space for our administrative office employees to serve our mission for many years to come, while also allowing us to expand our support of Wichita’s downtown economic development.”
A new headquarters for Cargill is being built in downtown Wichita and is scheduled for completion in late 2018. In the meantime, Cargill is leasing the North Main site from Meritrust. Once Cargill relocates to its new building, Meritrust will move its administrative departments and offices for mortgage services, wealth management advisors and small business services to the building. Meritrust anticipates moving its support departments to the downtown site in 2019.
Meritrust’s administrative office employee base currently includes lending, real estate, member support, accounting/finance, audit, information technology, business systems, special accounts and marketing departments. The North Main site will provide a potential of 110,000 square feet to support the Meritrust headquarters and offer ample conference rooms and meeting space for the credit union.
“We are delighted that Meritrust will be moving its headquarters into the 151 North Main Street building after we transition to our new protein business offices in Old Town in late 2018,” said Tom Windish, president of Wichita-based Cargill Protein retail. “We believe this is a win-win situation for the economic health of the downtown area and the greater Wichita area.”
The credit union was chosen in late 2016 for the Cargill site contract in big part due to the additional workforce being brought to downtown Wichita. Meritrust, which has 325 employees total, is currently headquartered out of a 30,000-square-feet building located at 8710 East 32nd Street North in Wichita, just south of K-96. Meritrust has been headquartered out of the east Wichita site since 2004 – and its support team is quickly outgrowing the building.
